Hermana Inman Letter November 1, 2012

Hello!

Happy Halloween!! Thanks so much to everyone who sent me happy halloween wishes!  It was fun to hear about your costumes and halloween plans.  Can you send me a picture of Torie and Jesse's costumes? They sound hilarious.  I can only imagine Torie in a morph suit haha.  She's so funny.  How did the block party and your halloween party go?  The sisters and I dressed up in orange, black, and purple, but that's about as much dressing up that we could do.  We did get a ton of treats though :).

How did Torie do at State?!  That is so exciting!  Good for her!  Especially since they haven't had many festivals to practice at.  Torie is so talented.  I got my voting ballot in the mail, thanks Mom!  Who won the election? Dad, you asked if you should post some of my handwritten letters to the blog; you can if you want!  I don't care either way, and I'm sure you know which parts would be good to post and which ones would not.  No, I have not gotten any letters from Grandpa yet, has he sent any?  Mom, how did your morningside go?!  Did he autograph a book for you? :).  Dad I'm praying for you to have time to do Zumba!
I ran into some of Jake's friends at the cafeteria the other day- they work there and saw my name and realized I was Jake's sister.  They mentioned that he was their home teacher and that he was great, I bet he'd like to hear that.  I'll tell him.  I pray for all of you every day.

That is so exciting to hear about so many sisters who are now preparing to serve a mission!  Congratulations and good luck!  It is definitely one of the best decisions you will ever make.  Just be prepared to work harder than you ever have before, and to feel God's love more than you ever have before :).

I've learned so many great things this week!  Earlier this week our district was studying the Book of Mormon in 1 Nephi.  We were talking about the difference between Laman and Lemuel and Nephi.  If you think about it, Laman and Lemuel did almost everything they were supposed to do.  They did what Nephi and their father Lehi told them to do.  So what makes them different than Nephi?  We realized that the biggest difference between Nephi and Laman and Lemuel is that Laman and Lemuel were complainers.  They did what they were supposed to, but they complained about it.  On the other hand, Nephi was dilligent and always did what the Lord told him to without hesitation.  Often times it's the same way in our lives and in the church.  We probably usually do what we are supposed to do- we do our callings, our home teaching, our visiting teaching, service, and so on.  But how many times do we actually do those things without complaining and murmuring?  Are we a Laman and Lemuel, dreading our visiting/home teaching? Or are we like Nephi, always willing and enthusiastic about doing the Lord's work? Just something to think about.

I was asked about the investigators I teach, so let me tell you a little bit about them!  I teach Carla and Jorge.  Carla is a 17 year old girl who has a baby boy named Isaias, and they live with Damien, Carla's boyfriend.  She is from Argentina and she is the sweetest girl ever.  She's really interested in the Gospel but always needs the approval to do things from her boyfriend.  Fortunately, her boyfriend has just asked to take the lessons from us as well :).  Jorge is a 50 year old man who lives here in Utah by himself and has a girlfriend in Columbia, and family in Peru. He went to the Salt Lake Temple Visiting Center and talked to the sisters there.  He requested to hear from missionaries, so here we are!  (of course these investigators are our teachers acting as someone they know or once taught. Im pretty sure the Lord wouldn't have fresh MTC missionaries teach real investigators yet... we've got a lot to learn).  I can give lessons in Spanish without any notes now, and we usually end up changing the whole lesson when we teach anyways, depending on what the Spirit tells us to say.  It's amazing.  This is truly the Lord's work.

Something that I am trying to work on is gaining a more personal relationship with my investigators.  What would you suggest I do to get to know them better and to help them feel God's love?

Thank you so much for the letters you have been writing to me!  It brightens up my whole day and makes me feel so loved!  I'm replying to them in the mail this afternoon.  You all are so very kind to me and I love you!
Have a great week and share the Gospel with someone each day!  It can change their life!

I love you and miss you and am praying for you!

Love,
Hermana Lacey Inman
